Each of these dogs are heartworm positive. Click on their photo to learn more about them.

These dogs are undergoing the ‘fast kill’ method of heartworm control.  The fast kill method is two injections, 24 hours apart, followed by 4-6 weeks of strictly enforced activity restriction.  The fast method kills all of the heartworms nearly at once, and any excitement in the dog could cause the dead worms to dislodge and block major blood vessels, causing the dog to die.  Medications given during the recovery period help break down the worms and help protect the dog.  The total cost for medications before the treatment, the two injections, and medications during the recovery period amount to around $700 per dog.  Your sponsorship will help us cover those costs.

After treatment, each dog is placed in a pre-arranged foster home to ensure it remains calm and quiet during it’s recovery.  APL covers all of the costs of fostering, such as food, medications, and vet bills.
